The Amazon Milk Frog (Trachycephalus resinifictrix) is a large species of arboreal frog native to the Amazon Rainforest in South America. It is sometimes referred to as the blue milk frog. Amazon milk frogs are fairly large frogs, reaching sizes of 2.5 to 4 inches in length. Adult frogs are light grey in color with brown or black banding, while juveniles will exhibit stronger contrasts. As Amazon Milk Tree Frogs age their skin will develop a slightly bumpy texture. The “milk” in the name comes from the milky colored fluid these frogs excrete when stressed. (Wiki.)

The giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis) is a South American carnivorous mammal. Unusually for a mustelid, the giant otter is a social species, with family groups typically supporting three to eight members. The groups are centered on a dominant breeding pair and are extremely cohesive and cooperative. Although generally peaceful, the species is territorial and aggression has been observed between groups. It is the noisiest otter species and distinct vocalizations have been documented that indicate alarm, aggressiveness, and reassurance. The giant otter ranges across north-central South America. The giant otter lives mostly in and along the Amazon River and in the Pantanal. (Wiki)

The mata mata or matamata (Chelus fimbriatus) is a freshwater turtle found in South America, primarily in the Amazon and Orinoco basins. The mata mata is a large sedentary turtle which has a large triangular flattened head characterized with many tubercles and flaps of skin and a “horn” on its long and tubular snout. There are three barbels on the chin and four additional filamentous barbels at the upper jaw, which is neither hooked nor notched. The mata mata is carnivorous, feeding exclusively upon aquatic invertebrates and fish. (Wiki.)

Endangered Species Of The Day
The pied tamarin (Saguinus bicolor) is an endangered primate species found in a restricted area in the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest. This New World monkey is found within and just north of the city limits of Manaus, the capital of the Amazonas state of Brazil. Individuals live in groups of 2 to 15 members with little intra-group competition. Gestation lasts 140–170 days and mothers typically give birth to twins. Young tamarins are cared for primarily by the father and turned over to the mother only to nurse, however the entire group helps with the care of the young. Due to the destruction of their natural habitat the species is at risk. (Wiki.)

The Black caiman (Melanosuchus niger) is a crocodilian. It is a carnivorous reptile that lives along slow-moving rivers and lakes, in the seasonally flooded savannas of the Amazon basin, and in other freshwater habitats in South America. The black caiman has a bony ridge over brown eyes, and black, scaly skin. The skin coloration helps with camouflage during its nocturnal hunts, but may also help absorb heat. It is the largest predator in the Amazon basin and possibly the largest member of the family Alligatoridae. Most adult black caimans are 3 to 4.26 metres (9.8–14 ft) in lengths, with old males rarely growing larger than 5 metres (16 ft). (Wiki.)
